How to make a speech bubble GIF
The speech bubble GIF maker adds the bubble along the top edge of your image, the format behind countless reaction memes. It keeps your image's shape and exports at 480 px wide, so the height follows your original.
- Add your imageTap the Your image slot and pick a photo or screenshot: a cat's stunned face, a character mid-reaction, a friend mid-sentence. Portrait and landscape images both work.
- Choose the bubble styleWhite bubble draws a solid white bubble over the top of the image. Transparent cut-out removes the bubble shape from the image instead, so the chat background shows through.
- Point the tailSet the tail to Left or Right so it points at whoever is “talking” in your picture.
- Pick an animationPop in makes the bubble appear with a bounce, Wiggle keeps it jiggling, and Still leaves it in place.

White bubble or transparent cut-out
The transparent cut-out is the version most people want. Instead of painting a white shape, it punches the bubble out of your image, leaving those pixels clear. When you post it, Discord's or iMessage's own background fills the hole, so the bubble looks like part of the chat window. The picture reads as if it's replying to the message above it.
GIF transparency is all-or-nothing: each pixel is either fully clear or fully solid. That gives the bubble a clean, hard edge, which blends best on a flat chat background in light or dark mode.
| White bubble | Transparent cut-out | |
|---|---|---|
| Looks like | A drawn bubble on the image | A hole shaped like a chat bubble |
| Best on | Any background, including busy feeds | Flat chat backgrounds like Discord and iMessage |
| Light and dark mode | Always white | Takes on the chat's color |
Choose White bubble when you're posting somewhere with a patterned or photo background, or when you want the bubble to look the same everywhere.
Using speech bubble reactions in chats
Send it as a reply to the message you're reacting to. In Discord, hover over a message, choose Reply, then attach the GIF. In iMessage, touch and hold a message, tap Reply, then send the GIF.
Because the GIF keeps your image's proportions, a tall screenshot stays tall. Crop very tall images in your photo app first, so the bubble and the face both fit on a phone screen.
Pair it with the explosion GIF maker for maximum drama, or the pet-pet GIF maker for a wholesome reply. To cut the background out of a video or photo instead, use the transparent GIF maker. Everything happens on your device, and more formats live in the GIF templates gallery.
