How to convert WebP to GIF
This works for both kinds of WebP. An animated one opens frame by frame, and a still one gets a motion effect so the GIF moves. To convert WebP to GIF:
- Add the WebPDrag the saved file onto the page or tap Choose files. Use the file rather than copying and pasting the image, because a copied image usually arrives as a single still frame.
- Check the framesAn animated WebP fills the Frames strip with every frame at its original timing. A still WebP shows one frame and starts with a gentle Zoom.
- Make your changesCrop it, add a Caption, change the Speed under Motion, or set Direction to Reverse or Boomerang.
- Keep the transparencyIf the WebP has a see-through background, Transparency under Advanced is already set to Keep. On a phone, Advanced is under More.
- Export GIFTap Export GIF. On a phone, Share or save GIF sends it to an app or your photos; on a computer, use Download GIF.
Animated WebP: every frame and its timing
DropGIF reads an animated WebP the way a browser plays it: each frame, held for its own duration. The GIF gets the same rhythm, including any pauses on particular frames. It keeps up to 300 frames; a longer animation is thinned evenly and the total running time stays the same. Frames larger than 1080 px are scaled down, and free GIFs export at up to 480 px wide.
- Change the speed. The Speed slider under Motion scales every frame's time at once, from 0.25× to 4×. The GIF speed changer has more on timing.
- Edit single frames. Tap the time under a frame to change only that one, tap its trash icon to drop it, or drag it to a new spot.
- Stay under 20 seconds. That's the free length limit. If the animation runs longer, speed it up or remove frames, or use Pro for up to 60 seconds.
Using Safari? As of October 2026, DropGIF can't read the separate frames of an animated WebP in Safari, so the file opens as a still image. Open it in Chrome, Edge or Firefox to keep the animation.
Still WebP: make it move
A still WebP has just one frame, and a one-frame GIF wouldn't move. So DropGIF adds motion: Zoom by default, or Pan, Shake, Pulse, Wobble and Spin, with a loop length of 1.2, 2 or 3 seconds. Pulse and Wobble suit stickers, Shake suits a reaction, and a slow Pan gives a wide photo some life.

Why convert WebP to GIF, and what changes
Every current browser shows WebP, but not every app or upload form accepts it. Google's Slides documentation, for one, lists PNG, JPEG and GIF as the image formats it takes. Converting gives you a file that works in more places, with a few trade-offs:

So expect the GIF to be bigger than the WebP it came from, and a little flatter in gradients and soft shadows. To get it under a platform's limit, tap a Fit button in the Where it fits strip, or lower Colors under Advanced. The GIF size limits page lists the targets. Saved the WebP from a website? DropGIF can't import from a link, so save the file to your device first, and only use images you have the rights to. Once it's a GIF, the GIF editor covers everything else you can change.
